Russian Tale about a girl named Masha who went into the forest to pick berries and ended up lost. Deep in the woods she found a hut (log house ) that had a bear living inside of it. The bear decided to keep Masha in his house to cook his meal, to clean his hut and to tell him stories., He told her not to try to escape, he would catch he any way, but Masha could not stop thinking about returning into her village to her grandparents. She decided to bake some pies, and told the bear to bring these pies back to her grandparents. The Bear agreed to do that.. Masha told the bear not to eat the pies and made him aware that she would be watching him from the tallest pine tree..

Masha climbed into the huge basket unnoticed and placed the pies on top of herself. The bear took the basket to Masha’s grandparents thinking that he was being watched by Masha. After the Bear knocked on the door to give the pies to her grandparents, Masha jumped out of the basket and ran inside her house.

The nesting dolls that you see here are made by a group of artists in Moscow, Russia. Russian craftsmen have been making nesting dolls since the mid-1700s. This lovely and entertaining art form has won a multitude of awards and hearts worldwide.

The raw material used in making the dolls are Lime logs, which are air dried for several years. Every piece passes through as many as 15 turning operations. The turning is all done by hand, and by eye. No measurements are involved. All of these operations require great skill and patience. The doll is then allowed to dry before being primed and painted.

These dolls also make a wonderful and educational toy, developing coordination skills and the sense of shape and size.

Warning: Choking Hazard The primary safety concern with nesting dolls is that many of them contain small parts that might cause an infant to choke. Therefore, very few nesting dolls are appropriate for children 4 years of age, or younger. Please do not let your children put nesting dolls into their mouths! Small children can play with nesting dolls only under proper supervision and care of an adult.

"Matreshkas" carry a rich tradition and always turn into family heirlooms.
